A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, in Young's Funeral Home in Tigard for Katherine Hohnstein Cedarquist, who died Jan. 27, 1997, of congestive heart failure. She was 86.

Mrs. Cedarquist was born Feb. 2, 1910, in Berthoud, Colo. Her maiden name was Hohnstein. She moved to Oregon in 1924. A homemaker, she lived in Beaverton.

She married George Cedarquist in 1933. They divorced in 1966. Survivors include her daughter, Betty Whitaker of Tigard; sister, Ann H. Rowe of Portland; brothers, George Hohnstein and John Hohnstein, both of Portland; three grandsons; and three great-granddaughters.

Private burial will be in Crescent Grove Cemetery in Tigard. The family suggests remembrances to a charity of choice.

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD ON FRIDAY, MAY 10TH
OLIN - Melissa Ballou, 98, Olin, died Wednesday, May 8, at the Stoeeker Custodial home, Anamosa. Family Prayer service was held at the Hayden Funeral home, Olin, at 1:45 p.m., Friday, May 10, followed by services in the Evangelical United Brethren church, Olin, at 2 p.m. Rev.
Lloyd Dutro, was in charge of the service. Burial was in the Olin cemetery.

Pallbearers included Bert Ballou, J. H. Ballou, Mearle Ballou, Maynard Gordon, Leon Stivers and Arno Lawson.
Mrs. Leon Stivers was soloist. Mrs. Galen Alexander was organist.
Life Outlined
She was born Melissa Cordelia Carter, Dec. 9, 1864, daughter of James and Rhoda Benadom Carter, Jackson township, Jones county. She grew to womanhood in the Jones county area and taught school in the rural schools of the county until her marriage. Sept. 19, 1886, she was married
to Simeon Ballou. They farmed in the Olin vicinity for many years and upon retiring moved to a home in Olin.
More Told
They observed their Golden wedding Sept. 19, 1936. Mr. Ballou died June 1943. Following the death of her husband, she continued to live in the family home until a few years ago. She moved to the Stoeeker Custodial home, Anamosa, in July 1962. She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren church, Olin. She was a former member of the Christian church.

Survivors include eight nieces and nephews: Wilma Carter Householder, San Diego, Calif; Esther Mae Carter, Los Angeles, Calif; Mrs. Jessie Scott, Cedar Rapids; Edythe Gordon and Gilbert Gordon, both of Marion; Edgard Blayney, Wood, Wise; Ray Stivers, Olin; and Irel Starry, Des Moines. Beside her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, and 8 brothers and sisters.

None of the children of Jochem VV & Eva Vroman were baptised until July 4, 1684 when the first 5 boys were baptised in a multiple cememony. As a result, the order of birth is unknown but they have been recorded herein in the order generally shown in the early books of reference, even though it is probably not the proper order of birth. Though the baptisms are in the Albany church records, they did not necessarily take place there as it was the common practice for clergymen to tour the surrounding countryside baptising children as they went from house to house.1
