Ruth was born Jan. 9, 1925, in Portland, Ore., to Mary and Godfred Loder. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1943. She was the personal secretary for Col. James McKee when she was introduced to his brother during a visit. After a six-day whirlwind courtship, Ruth married the love of her life, Bill McKee, in 1961. Bill and Ruth moved to Alaska in 1964 when Bill was stationed here with the Air Force. Bill was transferred to Sacramento, Calif., in 1966 and then transferred back to Alaska in the winter of 1970. He, Ruth and their two sons returned to Anchorage via the Alaska Highway. They soon purchased the home that they have lived in since. Ruth raised her two sons as a homemaker before returning to work as a secretary for the Federal Aviation Administration, retiring in 1994. Her family wrote: "Ruth most enjoyed spending time with her family. She considered raising her sons as her greatest achievement and went out of her way to tirelessly provide love and support to them at all times. Whether looking after grandchildren, helping with errands or simply baking treats, her family could always count on her unconditional support. Her friends were her extended family and regardless of where they live in the world, she never lost touch with them. She enjoyed reading and spending time relaxing in her yard during the summer. "Ruth's generosity and kind heart were an inspiration to her family and friends. She worked selflessly caring for her husband after he suffered a stroke in 2002. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her." She is survived by her husband, Bill McKee of Anchorage; son and daughter-in-law, Brendan and Rebecca McKee of Anchorage; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Twylia McKee of Anchorage; grandchildren, Brian Noethlich, Tony Noethlich, Antonia McKee and Kevin McKee; four great-granddaughters, Kylie, Ashlynn, Jordyn and Elizabeth; and one "grand dog," Escher. The Picayune Item



PICAYUNE — William Hubert McKee, Lt. Col, USAF Retired, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013. He was a long time resident of Anchorage, Alaska, and a member of the “Greatest Generation.”

Bill was born on July 11, 1921 in Picayune Miss. He was one of nine children. His father, Hugh Kelsey McKee was a lawyer, and eventually became a judge. His mother Cammie Ferrill McKee was a school teacher.

Bill volunteered for the Army Air Corps, and was assigned to a squadron which flew the Consolidated B-24 Liberator. The squadron flew throughout Italy, Romania, Africa and many other places around the world. They were sometimes escorted by the now-famous Tuskegee Airmen, an all-black squadron flying P-51 Mustangs.

After WWII, Bill transferred to fighters and flew the North American P-51 Mustang. The Army Air Corps became the US Air Force while Bill was on active duty. He flew many missions during the Berlin airlift, while assigned as communications officer in charge of keeping the electronic gear operational in the C-47s and C-54s that hauled the supplies to Berlin.

After seven years in the Air Force (and Air Corps), Bill left the service as a 1st Lieutenant and enrolled in Engineering at the University of Alabama in 1949. He remained in the Air Force Reserve and with the advent of the Korean War in 1950, was recalled and sent to Alaska. He quickly decided it was his favorite place.

After the Korean War was over, he rejoined the Air Force reserve and continued to fly with them until his retirement as a Lt. Colonel. He was a member of the Alaska Air National Guard flying Fairchild C-123 Providers on skis for many years.

He earned a second Bachelors Degree in Business/Economic and his Airframe and Power Plant certificate. An avid aviator, he owned several small airplanes and flew regularly in and outside Alaska and routinely worked on his own aircraft.

He was a volunteer for many years with the National Ski Patrol skiing most weekends up through retirement age. In his civilian job, he was a government employee purchasing communication equipment and services for the Air Force.

Bill spent the final years of his life being cared for by “My Father’s House” assisted living facility and we thank them for their loving care.

Bill was preceded in death by: his beloved wife, Ruth; his siblings, James, Robert, Hugh Jr., Frank, Margaret and Catherine.

He is survived by: his sons and daughters-in law, Brendan and Rebecca McKee and Tim and Twylia McKee; grandchildren, Brian, Tony, Antonia and Kevin; and five great-grandchildren; his brother, Edward who lives in North Carolina; sister, Mary Jane McKee who still lives in Biloxi Miss; and his sister-in-law, Ruby T. McKee of Torrance Calif.

Bill’s ashes will be interned at the Picayune, Mississippi Memorial Cemetery (Palestine), beside his beloved wife, Ruth. A military marker will be placed there at a later date. on 5 March 2013 at OBIT: The Picayune Item, MS, USA.11

A resident of the Fairfield/Vacaville area since 1964, Hazel quietly passed away on May 15, 2007, in Vacaville.

Hazel was a dedicated employee of Explosive Technology in Suisun from the late 60s until her retirement in 1988. She spent her life during and after marriage, devoted to the needs of her children not herself. She will forever be remembered by us for her hard work ethic and her extreme devotion to lovingly raising all of her children despite the adversities that she faced throughout her life. It will forever ring in our ears the values she gave us through her words and her actions, "Have faith;" "Live each day to the fullest;" "If you can't say something nice about someone, don't say it at all;" "Do what you can to help other people," are just a few that come to mind. We never heard her speak unkindly of another individual. She never put anything before us, and we never felt lacking for anything. Her kind, enthusiastic, positive nature was contagious to both her family and her co-workers.

Her one personal joy in life came from the many baked goods she made for all of her friends and family on all of their special occasions. It was routine for us to hear her up at 5 a.m., baking something in the kitchen to have ready for one of her many friends, before she left for work at 6:30 a.m. Not a child in our Fairfield neighborhood will forget her famous homemade popcorn balls. They were handed out each Halloween, back in a time when you could do such a thing. Many kids would continue coming by for this special treat well into adulthood.

She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Fairfield until later in life.

She was a devoted mother of four children, Beverly Baker of Richmond, Va., Sharon Erck of Vacaville, Kirk Shorter of Sacramento, and Kimberly Strachan of Reno, Nev. She was a loving grandmother to nine children.

Mother, you will forever be missed, admired, remembered, but most of all, loved. May you rest in peace.

Services will be performed at 1 p.m. Monday at Vaca Hills Chapel, 524 Elmira Road, Vacaville. A reception will follow the service at Valley Church, 5063 Maple Road, Vacaville. Interment will be for immediate family only.

Note1 April 2012 He Harvey Dale Loder was born April 26, 1923, in Bradish, Neb., and passed away March 26, 2012, from complications of a stroke.

Harvey was the second of six children born to Reka and Rudolph Loder. When Harvey was 13, the family moved to Twin Falls. He graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1941 and after Pearl Harbor he joined the Navy. Harvey served in the Pacific until the end of World War II.

On June 5, 1944, Harvey married Dorothy Jean Eisner. They had four children, Judy, Bruce, Kim and John.

After the war, Harvey went to work for the railroad. In 1961, the family moved to Twin Falls to join his father and brother at Loder and Sons Auto Repair Shop. In 1965, Harvey went to work for the U.S. Postal Service retiring in 1987. Harvey and Dorothy traveled in their fifth-wheel throughout the United States for the next five years until Dorothy died of breast cancer in 1993. Later that year, Harvey started his next great adventure with Juanita Pinkston. They lived and traveled this country until 2005, when they settled in Nampa.

Harvey is survived by Juanita and her son, David Pinkston; his daughter, Kim Friedrich (Terry Klaus); son, Silver Gladstar; grandson, Jeff Kirby (Karen) and their daughter, Krista; his aunt, Ann Combs; brother, Rudy (Ida) Loder; brother, Bob (Chris) Loder; sister, Maxine (Bob) Whited; sister, Millicent Jorgensen; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Harvey was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Judy; son, John; and sister, Margarite Bowers.

The family wishes to thank Saint Alphonsus Nampa, Elks Rehab Boise, St. Luke's Boise, the Veterans Administration, and Sunnyridge Rehab/Care Center Nampa for their wonderful people and care of Harvey.

We also want to thank our "Angel" caregivers Julie, Myra and Dana for their wonderful care and kindness to Harvey that enabled him to be at home, happy, with Juanita and Bitty until his death.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 2, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise. Services are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. An online guest book may be signed at www.nampafuneralhome.com.
