In that document, he claimed to be a Civil War veteran who served with Co. H, 3rd Pennsylvania Cavalry (60th Pa), but failed to list any service dates. That almost certainly led to the original biography shown below that claims this service. However, there is no corroboration that this John H. Bricker ever served with that unit. His name is not found in Co. H's company register (or in the unassigned register either), in Bates' History of Pennsylvania Volunteers, in the company muster roll, and no compiled military service was located in Fold3.com. There is no pension index on file, he is not found in the soldiers records and profiles in Ancestry.com or in the Pennsylvania Archives' ARIAS file for any company of the 3rd Pennsylvania Cavalry, there is no pension index on file on either Ancestry.com or Fold3.com, and his obituary makes no mention of military service. The only logical conclusion is that, barring new evidence to the contrary, he did not served as claimed in the 1890 Veterans' Schedule, if he served at all.

He was a farmer and nurseryman in the Newville area and was born March 13, 1836. He married Catharine Shannon June 8 1858. He enlisted in August 1861 in the Third Regiment Pennsylvania Cavalry, was assigned to the Army of the Potomac, and took part in the Virginia campaigns of that year, receiving disabilities in December necessitating hi discharge. Returning home he has devoted himself to the arts of peace. He established a nursery on his farm in 1867, and did a large and successful business supplying the large home trade and shipping to the West and South. Mrs Bricker died February 18, 1875, leaving two children; William and Mary. Mr Bricker remarried in September 1875, Miss Julia Bolen, and to this union have been born two children; John F. and Ellen. Mr Bricker a supporter of the Republican party took a deep interest in the cause of education, and served his township as school director for about twelve years.

H's company register (or in the unassigned register either), in Bates' History of Pennsylvania Volunteers, in the company muster roll, and no compiled military service was located in Fold3.com. There is no pension index on file, he is not found in the soldiers records and profiles in Ancestry.com or in the Pennsylvania Archives' ARIAS file for any company of the 3rd Pennsylvania Cavalry, there is no pension index on file on either Ancestry.com or Fold3.com, and his obituary makes no mention of military service. The only logical conclusion is that, barring new evidence to the contrary, he did not served as claimed in the 1890 Veterans' Schedule, if he served at all.

He was a farmer and nurseryman in the Newville area and was born March 13, 1836. He married Catharine Shannon June 8 1858. He enlisted in August 1861 in the Third Regiment Pennsylvania Cavalry, was assigned to the Army of the Potomac, and took part in the Virginia campaigns of that year, receiving disabilities in December necessitating hi discharge. Returning home he has devoted himself to the arts of peace. He established a nursery on his farm in 1867, and did a large and successful business supplying the large home trade and shipping to the West and South. Mrs Bricker died February 18, 1875, leaving two children; William and Mary. Mr Bricker remarried in September 1875, Miss Julia Bolen, and to this union have been born two children; John F. and Ellen. Mr Bricker a supporter of the Republican party took a deep interest in the cause of education, and served his township as school director for about twelve years.
