He TREMONT - Harlan Pflederer, 94, of Tremont passed away at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at his home.
He was born Sept. 29, 1917, in Tremont to Chris and Sophia Sauder Pflederer. He married Eloise Koch on Feb. 12, 1944, in Tremont, and she passed away Feb. 25, 1988. He then married Rosalie Donais on Nov. 4, 1989, and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Jackie (Jim) Petrov; two sons, Tom (Connie) Pflederer and Ken Pflederer; two stepchildren, Randolph Donais and Jeanne (Ralph) Kuntselman; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren and several stepgreat-grandchildren.
Harlan came from a family of 12, from which he is the last one to pass away. He farmed in the Tremont area for 20 years and then became involved in real estate and residential development. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was instrumental in the Cabin Ministries, a Christian outreach for young people. Harlan touched thousands of lives with his love for people and his humble service. He was a member of Northfield Christian Fellowship in Tremont, where his funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, also at the church. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Tremont. Davis Mortuary in Tremont is handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to his church or the Cabin Ministries.

She A memorial Mass for Helen McKillip, 86, of North Bend, formerly of Coquille, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 11, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coquille, with Father John McGuire and Father Karl Schray concelebrating. Burial will be at Myrtle Crest Memorial Gardens.

Helen was born Oct. 21, 1924, in Milwaukie, to Simon and Lydia (Loder) Roth. She died peacefully at home on April 3, 2011, after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease.

She married Wayne T. McKillip in 1946; they lived in several different states and overseas during his career in the U.S. Air Force. They settled in Coquille in 1979.

Helen was the much-loved mother of six children. She cooked, sewed, gardened, loved traveling and camping with her family. Primarily a homemaker, she returned to school to become a licensed vocational nurse when Wayne was sent to serve in Vietnam. After Wayne retired in 1979, they moved from their home in San Jose, Calif., to Coquille where they joined Holy Name Catholic Church. Married for 37 years, she survived Wayne, who died in 1983. Later she and her daughter Carol moved together to Coos Bay, where they joined Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Helen met her challenging illness with the same patience, cheerfulness and strength she gave to marriage, motherhood and her daily life.

Helen is survived by her sister, Rosalie Pflederer of Illinois; five of her children, Carol McKillip, Patricia McKillip, and Kathleen Morin of North Bend, Michele Sleight of Port Orchard, Wash., and James McKillip of Eagle Point; sister-in-law, Eleanor and her husband, Edmund Mahan; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Thomas McKillip Sr; her son, Wayne Thomas McKillip Jr. of Reno, Nev; sister, Esther Freund of Ohio; and brother, Richard Raymond Roth of Milwaukie.

Arrangements are under the direction of Amling/Schroeder Funeral Service - Coquille Chapel, 541-396-3846.

Edith A. Affolter was born Aug. 1, 1920, in West Bend, Iowa, and moved to Portland as a child. She graduated from Milwaukie High School in 1938 and worked for her husband's orthopedic appliance business then was a secretary for the state Department of Human Resources. She was a member of the church. In 1945, she married George J. Hohnstein.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Janet H. Brockman; son, Bruce G; and sister, Elizabeth Steiner.

She Mary Ellen (Metzger) Knobloch was born June 18, 1931 in Sabetha, KS, the daughter of Phillip and Bertha (Affolter) Metzger. She was married to Dale Knobloch on September 6, 1953. She made a decision to put her faith in Jesus Christ in 1956 and was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church of Lester, IA.

Mary lived most of her life on a farm in rural Larchwood, IA prior to moving to Rock Rapids with her loving husband in 2009. She worked part-time at the Lyon County Reporter for over 35 years. She is remembered as a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She blessed the lives of many with her gift of hospitality and her love for the Lord.

Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Dale and their six children, Karen (Ray) Glammeier of Sioux Falls, SD, Mike (Bonnie) Knobloch of Inwood, IA, Lori (Rolyce) Scheitlin of Remington, IN, Doug Knobloch, Stan (Dawn) Knobloch of Rock Rapids, IA, and Patti (Kurt) Bahler of West Lafayette, IN, along with 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are five sisters Phyllis Banwart of West Bend, IA, Barbara Edelman of Sabetha, KS, Delores Metzger of Peoria, IL, Carol (Doug) Moser of Peoria, AZ, Cheryl Metzger of Sabetha, KS and one brother, Clayton Metzger of Canby, OR.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Eldon Metzger, Ron Metzger and Jim Metzger, and a daughter-in-law, Kathy Knobloch.

He Paige Alan Metzger, 54, of Gridley, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018, at his home in Gridley.

Paige was born September 18, 1963, in Sabetha, Kansas, the son of Eldon Charles and Dorene Kay (Strahm) Metzger.

The family moved to Gridley when Paige was two years old. He graduated from Gridley High School in 1982 and attended Flint Hills Technical College for a year and a half. He worked during the construction of the Wolf Creek Generating Station. He later worked outages at nuclear plants throughout the eastern United States. He had worked as a finish carpenter, at Didde Graphics and Modine in Emporia, and in the oil fields. He had also worked at ABC New Dimensions in Emporia and C M Custom Works in Wichita.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eldon Metzger, on July 29, 2005, an infant sister, Jo Lynn Metzger; his maternal grandparents, Loren and Liseten Strahm; and his paternal grandparents, Phillip and Bertha Metzger.

He leaves his mother, Dorene Metzger, Gridley; four brothers, Shawn Eldon Metzger and wife Sandra, East Earl, PA, Philip Loren Metzger and wife Stephanie, Emporia, KS, Barry Robert Metzger and wife Amber, Sabetha, KS, and Cory Wayne Metzger and wife Jodi, Bel Aire, KS; his sister, Wendy Kay Fetter, Westminster, CO; a number of nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 2, 2018, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial will follow in the Lamont Apostolic Cemetery in Lamont, KS.

The family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday at Jones Funeral Home. on 2 April 2018 at OBIT.¹

Surviving are his wife, Jean Metzger of Morton; two sons, Trent (Julie) Metzger of Dunlap and Scott (Kjersten) Metzger of Dunlap; three grandchildren, Lincoln, Reagan and Annika Metzger; six sisters, Phyllis Banwart of West Bend, Iowa, Mary (Dale) Knobloch of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Barbara Edelman of Sabetha, Kan., Delores Metzger of Peoria, Carol (Doug) Moser of Peoria, Ariz. and Cheryl Metzger of Sabetha, Kan; two brothers, Clayton (Jean) Metzger of Canby, Ore. and Ronald (Sherrill) Metzger of Hendersonville, N.C; 32 nieces and nephews; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
James graduated from Sabetha High School, Sabetha, Kan. in 1960. He attended Kansas State University taking pre-pharmacy courses and graduated from University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. James then received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan.
He was a member of the Morton Apostolic Christian Church.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at Princeville Apostolic Christian Church in Princeville, Ill., with Apostolic Christian Church ministers officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. Further visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m., Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Princeville Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery.

Barbara Kaye (Metzger) Edelman, 81, of Sabetha died Friday, May 24, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family.

Barbara was born on September 14, 1937 the daughter of Phillip Metzger and Bertha (Affolter) Metzger in Sabetha, Kansas. She grew up and attended school in Sabetha, graduating from Sabetha High School in 1955. After high school she worked at Metzger Bakery and Cafe. On March 2, 1958, she was united in marriage to Clifford Edelman in Sabetha. Following their marriage, they raised their family on a farm southeast of Bern. When her children were grown, Barbara enjoyed working as a waitress at Buzz Cafe, Daylight Donuts and later at the Sabetha Elementary School cafeteria. In 2007, Clifford and Barbara moved to the Apostolic Christian West Village apartments in Sabetha. Clifford passed away on November 5, 2011.

Barbara was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Sabetha. She enjoyed baking and sharing the baked goods with others. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time and making special memories with her family and friends.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford; her son, Terry; her brothers, Eldon Metzger, Ronald Metzger and James Metzger; her sister, Mary Knobloch; and her brother in law, Alvin Banwart.

Barbara is survived by her four children, Randall (Cindy) Edelman of Sabetha, Rodney (Joleen) Edelman of Bern, Pamela (Stan) Wulf of Morris, Minnesota, and Bradley (Teresa) Edelman of Sabetha; four sisters, Phyllis Banwart of West Bend, Iowa, Delores Metzger of Peoria, Illinois, Carol (Doug) Moser of Peoria, Arizona, and Cheryl Metzger of Sabetha; one brother, Clayton (Jean) Metzger of Canby, Oregon; brother-in-law, Dale Knobloch of Rock Rapids, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Doreen Metzger of Gridley, Kansas, Sherrill Metzger of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Jean Metzger of Morton, Illinois and 22 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church in Sabetha. A visitation will be Monday, May 27, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. The interment will be made in the Sabetha Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sabetha Community Hospital or the Nemaha County Home Health and Hospice, sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, Kansas 66534. after 24 May 2016 at OBIT.⁴
