A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, in First United Methodist Church in Portland for George John Hohnstein, who died Sept. 26 at age 90.

Mr. Hohnstein was born Dec. 31, 1913, in Berthoud, Colo. He moved in 1927 to Portland and graduated from Jefferson High School. He served in the Army during World War II in Europe and North Africa. He owned and operated Advance Orthopedic Co. In 1945, he married Edith Affolter; she died in 2002.

Survivors include his daughter, Janet H. Brockman; son, Bruce G; and sister, Ann H. Rowe.

Remembrances to the OHSU Parkinson & Movement Disorders Clinic.

He died of causes related to age Friday in a Portland hospital. Mr. Hohnstein was 94.

He was born Jan. 29, 1899, in Norka, Russia. He had lived in the Portland area for the past 65 years. Mr. Hohnstein worked as a machinist for the old Oregon Journal newspaper for a number of years until his retirement in 1955.

Survivors include his brothers, John and George, and his sisters, Anne Rose and Katherine Cedarquist, all of Portland.

Survivors include his son, Milton J. of Portland; brother, George of Portland; sister, Ann Rowe of Beaverton; and three grandsons.

The family suggests remembrances to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are by Young's Funeral Home.

He Steve was no stranger to leading. His love for entrepreneurship began early by winning multiple sales awards in Junior Achievement. He served on many boards, won multiple professional sales awards, earned professional credentials, including CFP, LUTCF, ChFC, CIC, and was a long time member of the esteemed MDRT. Steve and his wife Jeanne founded the Pregnancy Crisis Center (n/k/a Embrace) in Wichita which provides vital resources to women with unplanned pregnancies. Steve was a lover of people and life. Some of his passions included mentoring up-and-coming entrepreneurs; fishing with his sons, his friends, the guys at the Lincoln Street Bridge, and pretty much anyone brave enough to get in a boat with him; hunting; going for a drive in the Flint Hills; and sharing the love and grace of Christ to everyone he met after 13 November 2019 at OBIT.¹
